Metoden benyttes blant annet for \u00e5 synliggj\u00f8re basalmembraner i glomerulikapill\u00e6rene i nyrevev (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oppvarmet periodsyre benyttes for \u00e5 oksidere karbohydrater til aldehyder. S\u00f8lvl\u00f8sningen benytter aldehydene som festepunkt. Aldehydene reduserer s\u00f8lvionene til metallisk s\u00f8lv. Videre utf\u00f8res toning ved \u00e5 tilsette gullklorid som reduserer s\u00f8lvmengden i preparatet ved \u00e5 oksidere s\u00f8lvet, se reaksjonslikning.
